Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, April 28, 2024: The International Fencing Federation (FIE) reports that Samantha Kyle Catantan of the Philippines secured her individual spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
She beat Sofiya Aktayeva (Kazakhstan) 15-14 in the women’s individual foil final at the Asian-Oceanian qualifier in Fujairah, UAE.
Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino posted: “Forging history! Samantha Kyle Catantan has secured her spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after a thrilling victory at the Asian-Oceanian qualifier in Fujairah, UAE. Her determination and skill inspire us all on the Road to Paris.
“Samantha makes history, becoming the first Filipino fencer to qualify for the Olympics since 1992.”
